Every so often I have a random thought about a video game that doesn’t exist, but I’d love to play it some day. Maybe a sequel to a beloved game, a spinoff, or something completely new. Well, over the years, I’ve thought enough about this subject that I feel like my brain has concocted at least 10 different dream games! So, I figured, why not talk about some of my ideas for dream games?
Let’s get into it!
10) A True RWBY RPG
There have been a handful of RWBY games released, and while fun can be had with them, we’ve yet to get anything extraordinary. And I’m left wondering why we haven’t just gone for the obvious solution yet, which is a full-on RPG (not the jank that was Grimm Eclipse). Imagine something akin to Star Wars Jedi Survivor, with big open areas, tons of tough foes, and a billion combat options. Except instead of one character switching classes, you’d swap between our main heroines. Blake teleports over gaps, Ruby speeds up slopes, Yang punches through barricades, and Weiss…buys stuff? Just kidding, I love Weiss. But doesn’t that idea just hold so much untapped potential? And the world of RWBY is nothing if not rife with potential for exploring.

9) Sonic Adventure 3
The Sonic series is infamous for its ups-and-downs, and there’s a genuine argument to be made that the blue-blur has never had a truly flawless game. But ask many of his fans, and they’ll share their love of the two Adventure games. And yet, why don’t we have a third one if those two are so beloved? Why do we get linear hallway-simulators that overly focus on Boost Mode, or an experimental open-world entry like Frontiers? Of course, the same argument could be made for Sonic Mania, in that we really should’ve had three of those dang things by now. Sega just likes abandoning good ideas. Still, I’d happily accept a Sonic Adventure 3 that plays just like those old games…well, maybe not just like. We can fix the jank and the bugs.

8) Dishonored 3
When it comes to being stealthy, sneaking around rooftops and mansions, and meting out karmic justice, no gaming series can match Dishonored. It reigns supreme atop the Immersive Sim genre…so why is the series dead? Prey was fine, and at least the concept is cool for Death Loop, but nothing actually compares to the OG duology (plus above-average DLC Death of the Outsider that got treated as a full release for some reason). These games have some crazy worldbuilding, so if the writers were stumped we could’ve just jumped to another continent and explored the world through the eyes of a brand-new protagonist. Surely some concept would’ve been enough justification to get another fantastic entry in this unparalleled series!

7) Fire Emblem Warriors 2
This is a pretty simple one, as I’ve made my stellar opinions of Fire Emblem Warriors pretty clear over the years. And yet for all it does right, the roster is a bit wack. It’s 95% comprised of only three games (Fates, Awakening, and Shadow Dragon). It seems like a no-brainer to do a sequel that brings in characters from all across the series, as well as highlights newcomers from games like Engage, or even Heroes. Then just slap together a new story (please make it better than the original’s lame cliche-fest), maintain the billion-hours of content inherent in the History Mode, and viola! We’ve got another fun and exciting game to sink all your time into! This gameplay style is too addicting to kill off so soon!

6) Fairy Tail Fighting Game
This is one that came to me only recently, and yet ever since having the epiphany, I haven’t been able to shake it out of my mind. Fairy Tail is a show that is bursting at the seams with fantastic, jaw-dropping fight scenes. So why don’t we have a dedicated Fairy Tail fighting game yet? We’ve gotten two okay-ish RPGs here in the West…and that’s about it. Can you imagine something akin to Dragon Ball FighterZ or Street Fighter, but with the massive roster of Fairy Tail heroes and villains? I think I’d die of happiness if a game like that got announced! And with so many possibilities, I’m not even sure who I’d want to make my main! It could be one of the most exciting fighting games ever released if its hypothetical developers put enough love and care into it!

5) Xenoblade Chronicles X2
While the recently-released remaster of the OG Xenoblade Chronicles X (plus brand-new post-game content) was awesome, I can’t help but still want a true sequel. The original still stands as a titan atop the mountain of the Open World genre, and I firmly believe the only thing that could ever challenge that throne is a sequel. Give me another massive planet (but even bigger), give me another huge assortment of characters and classes (but even more), and give me another five million side quests that are some of the most enthralling, surprising, and engaging content in the entire game. Because while I loved every second of playing through the remaster these past few months, a part of me still yearned for more. And hey, given the way everything wraps up in the post-game…this dream of mine might actually come true someday!

4) A Hat In Time 2
It only makes sense that I would want to play a sequel to the best 3D platformer of all time, and one of my overall favorite video games ever. The way the levels are designed, the way Hat Kid’s movement options compliment both the design and the desire for speedrunning (Have I mentioned I’m the 472nd faster player in the world for this game? Hold your applause.), the soundtrack? It’s all too brilliant to let languish as a single-game series. Throw me some more creative worlds, some more jaw-dropping bosses, and some more zany antics, and I’m totally down! Granted, the PC version of this game includes access to the Steam Workshop, which is filled with literally hundreds of user-created levels. All of that is cool…but a proper sequel would be really nice too!

3) Hyrule Warriors 2
Similar to the above entry about Fire Emblem Warriors, Hyrule Warriors getting a sequel is another straight-forward thing I’ve wanted desperately for years. The key difference here is that while I enjoy Fire Emblem Warriors, Hyrule Warriors is one of my favorite video games ever created, so that’s why I want a sequel so much more. There’s just tons of inspiration to pull from! So many Zelda games with characters and worlds just waiting to be incorporated, and so many classic tracks begging for an electric guitar remix! Whip-up another surprisingly solid and lengthy Story Mode, maintain the near-infinite content of the Adventure Mode, and keep things fresh with new gameplay mechanics and a revised roster and maybe some DLC…and you’ve got a recipe for brilliance!
…but please keep Lana in it. Thanks!

2) A True Open World Pokémon
For all that Pokémon shows, movies, comics, and more like to flesh out the world of these adorable critters, you really do spend an awful lot of time doing the same thing in each game. So why don’t we have a game that actually lets you ‘be the very best‘ in whatever definition that means for you? Like, maybe you can choose to be a Pokémon Breeder (like Brock), and there’s actually a whole campaign for that? Or you can lean into Pokémon Contests (like Dawn), and engage with that whole side of the world in fully fleshed-out fashion, and not just a minigame like it’s been relegated to in the past?
But say you like battling. We can evolve that too! What about a game where you can choose to own your own gym? You choose your Pokémon, you design the gym, and then you actually have to battle trainers on their own journeys? Better yet, what about a Pokémon game that actually lets you STAY as the champion for once (I mean, Sun and Moon sort of did this, but still)? You hold down your throne and battle all challengers that come your way!
And then, to top it all off…all regions in one game. Explore the full universe of Pokémon to your heart’s content, settle down in whichever region is your favorite, and interact with characters from across the series. It’d be so awesome!

1) A True Open World Star Wars
Some people around my age have had dreams about what it would be like to grow up in the magical world of Harry Potter and attend Hogwarts. But for me, it was always the Jedi Temple that I wanted to live at. Growing up as a youngling learning about the Force and lightsabers, then exploring the galaxy as a Jedi Master’s apprentice, then becoming a Knight and getting my own padawan, and finally reaching totally expertise and contentment in my older age as a Jedi Master? Doesn’t that all sound incredible? And getting to do it within the inimitable Star Wars universe is the icing on the cake!
Honestly, even if the game was limited to Coruscant, you’d still have one heck of an experience on your hands. Imagine, creating a character and then enjoying a thrilling story that spans multiple time periods of your character’s life (making up each act of the story). Sprinkle in tons of Coruscant exploration and a whole slew of engaging side quests (with opportunities for cheeky fanservice references), and I think you’d have perhaps the greatest Star Wars game of all time on your hands.
And then, it could even become a series, which each installment focusing on a different type of lifestyle. Like, imagine a game of the same vein all about being an up-and-coming criminal who rises through the ranks of Smuggler or Bounty Hunter, before eventually becoming a peak Crime Lord or some such. Perhaps a Sith Acolyte version of the Jedi Temple game? Maybe one about rising through the ranks of either the Republic Army or the Separatists during the Clone Wars? A game about being a lowly Imperial grunt who eventually becomes an Admiral (complete with big space battles)? I mean, we’re talking dream games here, so why not aim big?

But hey, that’s just my opinion!
